Support St. John's Church

You will be enriched in every way for your great generosity, which will produce thanksgiving to God through us

2 Corinthians 9:11

St Johns is the oldest church in Redhill dating back to 1843 and as such requires a lot of investment to maintain to enable it to continue to support the local community.

Due to the recent rises in interest rates and energy costs, we have seen significant increases in the running cost of the church and community centre.

We urgently need your support to be able to continue to:

  • Preserve our church buildings and keep them in good order.
  • Share the beauty and peace that our church buildings have to offer and share the Christian gospel with one another and others
  • Grow the church so that is available for the community today and for generations to come.

Your donations are vital to maintaining the buildings, paying the ministry team and supporting all we do to share God's love week by week, and year by year.

Please consider how you can help us.

Join Us!

There’s an old joke that church is like a helicopter - because of the danger of being drawn into the rotas! Well, being on the Electoral Roll does not mean you are signing up to any new commitments and you may in any case already be committed to supporting our church as a volunteer, for which we thank you.

Being on the Electoral Roll means that you can attend and vote at the Annual Parochial Church Meeting (APCM) at which the Annual Reports are presented, questions raised from the floor, our vision for the church reviewed and our performance assessed.

To join the Electoral Roll you must meet one of the following:

  1. Be a member of the Church of England (or of a Church in communion with the Church of England) and a resident in the parish.

  2. Be a member of the Church of England (or of a Church in communion with the Church of England) and, not being resident in the parish, Have habitually attended public worship in the parish during the period of six months prior to enrolment.

  3. Be a member in good standing of a Church (not in communion with the Church of England) which subscribes to the doctrine of the Holy Trinity and also declare myself to be a member of the Church of England and I have habitually attended public worship in the parish during the period of six months prior to enrolment.

If you would like to become a member of the congregation then you can fill out an Electoral Roll Form and send it to our Electoral Roll Officer.

Regular Giving

People sometimes assume the church is wealthy and doesn’t need their support, but voluntary income pays for 75% of the costs of the church’s ministry and mission. People need to continue to give to enable the church to do what it does for the community.

If you want to donate regularly to St John's then please sign up to the Parish Giving Scheme (PGS).  This will allow the church to effectively manage your regular giving via direct debit and also process any Gift Aid contributions.

You can sign up online, or by downloading, completing, and posting off the form, which also has a brief introduction to the scheme.

Hardcopies of the form will be available at the back of the church or from the office.

If you are an online shopper then you can support St John's Church by registering with easyfundraising.org, and then doing your shopping through that site.

We will earn a bit of money without it costing you a penny extra! So far this has led to over £3,500 being raised for the church.

Also, you can raise further money for the church by referring a friend through this link.

Recycling

As part of our commitment to EcoChurch we have expanded our recycling centre located in the foyer of the community centre.  Not only is this good for the planet but, in some cases, it also helps fundraise for the church.

If you have any of the following items that need disposing of then why not bring them with you to church and help the planet and St Johns at the same time!

  • Crisp Packets

  • Batteries

  • Ink Cartridges

  • Books

  • Cameras

  • Mobile Phones

  • Electronic Devices

  • Foreign Currency

  • Jewellery

  • Stamps

  • Pens

For more information about our recycling and the charities we work with click here.

Volunteering

Your Church needs you! Our volunteers are the lifeblood of our church, we greatly appreciate everything they do – whether cleaning or flower arranging, chairing committees or updating our social media, and even smaller acts such as bringing in the bins from the driveway all mean that our church runs smoothly.

We currently have a number of volunteer opportunities:

  • Warden

  • Deputy Warden

  • Stewardship Secretary

  • Servers

  • Finance Team members

  • Photocopying and printing newsletters

  • Cleaning

  • Altar linen laundering

  • Gardening

  • Maintenance day helpers

  • Hospitality team (running bar/serving foods)

If you think you could spare an hour or so a week to support St John’s Church - with one of the opportunities above or something else - please contact the Vicar.
